RFI Promote Reiki At The Cultivate Health & Yoga Day
Held on the day of the Summer Solstice, 2008, Cultivate organised an event of
educational and social exchange. Cultivate is the main initiative of Sustainable
Ireland Cooperative. It is a hub for a community of people and activities which
provides the tools and facilities that support people's efforts to become more
sustainable. Cultivate aims to be an engine of local economy, community building
and cultural renewal. RFI was approached in early April and the Committee decided
it would be beneficial to take part especially in light of the very positive
feedback following the RDS Mind Body Spirit Show in March 2008.
We really had no idea what to expect. We were unsure of numbers to
expect, exact logistics of the event (there were two buildings in use) and so on.
An appeal was sent out to RFI Members to volunteer their services on the day, and
boy did we get a response. There was a fantastic team at hand all day. Two
committee members arrived early for the set-up and got the ball rolling. Between
the volunteers, a stand was co-ordinated in the main hall of St. Michael &
John's at Cultivate, and plinth treatments were facilitated in a classroom in the
Aspect Language School. It was only on arrival that it was discovered there was a
huge gap between the two areas to be in use on the day, so at the stand in the
main hall we started running chair treatments, and were inundated for the day.
There were four plinths on the go over at the language school with clients queuing
all day long - not even a lunch break was possible.
There were literally hundreds of queries, everything from 'What is
Reiki?' to 'How do I join RFI?' and 'Can I learn Reiki?'. Contact details were
left at the stand which will give us an opportunity to follow up with people who
had treatments on the day. Many people attended the talk that was given at 5pm,
and a demonstration was also given.
All credit is due to the members who turned out in force on the day
and gave of their time. Thank you all for once more putting the best foot (or
should we say hands) forward in the promotion.of Reiki.
